Friend, pour a cup of coffee and sit with me a moment. Homestead life follows a simple rhythm: we plant, we tend, and in time we gather the harvest. The gospel is simple too. The word “gospel” means “good news.” It is not a list of chores to finish. It is the story of what God has already done for you, because He loves you.
1. God Made You, and He Loves You
Before you ever did a single thing right or wrong, God made you on purpose.
“So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.”
Genesis 1:27, KJV
You are not an accident. And His love does not run out when you are tired or behind on the laundry.
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
John 3:16, KJV
“Whosoever” includes you.
2. Sin Separates Us from God
Here is the hard part. Sin is anything we think, say, or do that goes against God, and every one of us has sinned.
“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.”
Romans 3:23, KJV
“But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.”
Isaiah 59:2, KJV
Like weeds choking a young plant, sin cuts us off from the life God meant for us, and it leads somewhere hard:
“For the wages of sin is death.”
Romans 6:23a, KJV
We cannot pull these weeds out by our own strength. Trying harder cannot pay what we owe. But God did not leave us there.
3. Jesus Died and Rose Again for You
This is the heart of the good news. God sent His Son to do what we never could.
“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”
Romans 5:8, KJV
“For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God.”
1 Peter 3:18a, KJV
Jesus never sinned, yet He took the punishment for our sin on the cross. He was buried, and on the third day He rose again. He is alive today.
“Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures.”
1 Corinthians 15:3b–4, KJV
Every gardener knows a seed goes down into the ground before new life springs up. Jesus went down into the grave and came out victorious, so that we could live with Him.
4. Receive Him by Grace Through Faith
We cannot earn this gift. We simply open our hands and receive it.
“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.”
Ephesians 2:8–9, KJV
“But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name.”
John 1:12, KJV
To receive Jesus means to turn from your sin, believe that He died and rose again for you, and trust Him as your Lord and Savior.
“That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”
Romans 10:9–10, KJV
“For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
Romans 10:13, KJV
There is that word again: whosoever.
5. New Life and Sure Hope
When you trust Christ, God makes you new, like a bare winter field turning green in spring.
“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”
2 Corinthians 5:17, KJV
You do not have to wonder whether you belong to Him. God wants you to know.
“These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life.”
1 John 5:13a, KJV
A Simple Prayer
If you want to receive Jesus today, you can talk to Him right now. There are no magic words; God looks at your heart. You might pray something like this:
Dear Jesus, I know that I am a sinner, and I cannot save myself. I believe You died on the cross for my sins and rose again from the dead. I turn from my sin and trust You alone. Please forgive me and give me new life. I receive You as my Lord and Savior. Thank You for loving me. Help me follow You every day. In Jesus’ name, amen.
If you prayed that and meant it, welcome to the family of God!
Next Steps
A new seedling needs water, sunshine, and good soil. So does new faith:
- Read the Gospel of John. One chapter a day is a wonderful way to get to know Jesus.
- Find a Bible-believing church. Worship, learn, and grow alongside other believers.
- Pray every day. Prayer is simply talking with God, like you would a dear friend.
- Tell someone. Share your decision with a Christian friend or pastor who can pray with you.
Growing in faith is like tending a garden. It takes time and patience. Be gentle with yourself, and keep coming back to Jesus. He is faithful.
